My name is Lisa Royster. I am a 33 year old, single mother of two children. I'm a Special Education teacher, and an active member in the community as well as my church.
In February 2015, I became ill, with various symptoms. I started having severe migraines, and headaches, weakness, and dizzy spells. My symptoms became almost unbearable, it was hard to function and perform my day to day duties. I went to my doctor to run tests to find out what was wrong. My doctor took me off of work to monitor my health, and run extensive tests to find a diagnosis. During this time, on a random day, I passed out and began convulsing aggressively. By chance, two registered nurses were near me, they aided me, and called the paramedics. The seizures were back to back, and did not stop until the paramedics arrived and administered medication to stop the seizures. I was rushed to the  E.R., where they ran multiple tests and performed a CT scan. At this point, the doctor's could not find a cause or diagnosis.
After more tests,  an MRI scan revealed I had a 3mm aneurysm on the posterior artery. The aneurysm was being monitored on a "wait and watch" period. I continued to have seizures, and migraines. I was prescribed several medications to help control the seizures.  I ended up having to take three different seizure medications . About four weeks, after taking the third medication I began to have an allergic reaction. My body started to form blisters and burn from the inside out.
On September 29, 2015, I was transported to Oshner's Hospital in, New Orleans LA. I was in ICU, and the doctors confirmed it was Steven Johnson Syndrome T.E.N. I was in an ICU Burn unit for three weeks. During this time of recovery my mother quit her job to stay with me in the hospital and helped me with my children once I was discharged. As a result, she was left without a job for eight months, and I was out of work for 5 months. All while going through this, I went through a divorce. This event caused a great hardship, and financial strain for me as a  single mother of two children.
In May 2018, I had to have a  routine  MRA, this test confirmed that I had a second brain aneurysm. The size and location of this aneurysm raised a major concern for my doctor. In the event of a rupture, it could be fatal, or cause brain damage. I'm at an even greater risk of rupture with having two brain aneurysms at the same time. To prevent a rupture, my doctor advised me to  have it clipped through brain surgery, which is a craniotomy.  I've decided to go through surgery and take preventive measures, so that I can continue to live a productive life and raise my children.
My surgery is scheduled for September 14, 2018, and  my expected recovery time is approximately 3 months. It has indeed, been a journey for me these past 3 years, but I'm encouraged and know that God has a plan for me.
