My Mom, Lisa Radogna, was in a horrific seadoo accident on 4th of July at the Colorado River. She had just planned to take the seadoo over to the beach from the lagoon, but then decided she would give it a quick ride after getting it out on the water. The river was very low, and she was moving along fairly quickly to stay above the water, when she hit a sandbar. The steering column on the ski impaled her through her groin area and out near her hip area. This unforeseen accident will change my families life forever. It happened in an instant, and my Mom will have a long road to recovery. She has underwent many surgeries since 4th of July at Desert Regional Hospital in Palm Springs, where she was life-flighted from the river. She remains there recovering. She ran very high fevers initially, as the medical team was not able to get her pain medications under control, and then when they tried a different medication it made her vomit. She is starting to recover though. Our family is separated, and our day to day lifestyle that we were accustomed too has changed drastically. Tiffany and I are staying in Azusa, and traveling back and forth to the hospital every day, and my little sister, Mackenzie is staying with our Aunt and Uncle. I surprised my Mom with this gofundme, and she is very humbled and grateful for everyone's concern and kindness!
As we weren't expecting such a serious and sudden injury to our Mom, we were not financially prepared. Our Mom will be off work for several months to recover, and will be hospitalized for at least another 2-3 weeks. Having dressing changes every other day while under anesthesia. Although, she has very good insurance, her hospital stay may put a burden on our financial situation, that is why I am asking for your help and support. If you are able to help financially with any amount, we would be so grateful. My stepdad, Tim has been by her side through this entire ordeal, but he will have to go back to work, and the vehicle gas fees traveling from Azusa to Palm Springs is quite a huge expense for all of us. Unfortunately, they celebrated their anniversary in the hospital this year, but by next year we hope that they will be able to enjoy their anniversary together, under much better circumstances.
We will update my Mom's progress as she moves through her recovery. She is amazingly strong, as she was impaled and able to drive herself back to the beach to get help. Emergency services arrived and were so wonderful in getting her transported to the best trauma hospital that was closest to the River, she underwent immediate surgery and has had a wound vac on since the surgery. They have not been able to completely put her back together. The photos are very graphic and they represent the healing process that she will endure over the next several months. The injury is to her left leg from the groin area to the hip area. The first surgery performed was to remove her bathing suit which had been lodged into her body.
