Lip & Tongue Tie Help for Allison

Donation protected
What a whirlwind.  We always knew the first few weeks with a new baby would be a blur but you never really can prepare for exactly how upside-down this tiny little person can turn your life.  All you can do is hope and pray that you know what your doing to fully take care of her and that she has everything she needs to thrive.

We took Allison in for her 2 week routine well baby visit at the birth center this past Tuesday.  They started with all the routine questions and I had expressed that breastfeeding had been a challenge.  Allison would seem to latch ok then fall asleep after nursing for a long while. I would assume she was "milk drunk" and put her to bed where she would sleep for 10 minutes and wake up screaming and rooting as if she hadn't eaten anything.  We would go round and round like this all night and I had just accepted that I was never sleeping again. When I explained all of this to my midwife she looked very concerned and told me that was definitely not normal behavior.

When they weighed her she had lost almost 1 pound since birth.  I know it's normal for babies to lose a little bit right after birth but she had continued to drop weight since we brought her home which meant she wasn't getting the nourishment she needed.  She had also become jaundiced and her heartrate was very elevated.  They immediately called in an appointment with a pediatric specialist for us to take her to where we learned that our poor baby has a significant lip and tongue tie.

Her tongue tie prevents her from being able to stay latched properly causing her to have to struggle and exhaust herself during feedings where she would eventually just fall asleep after trying so hard to get milk.  Hence why she wakes up starving.  Since she's not able to get the calories she's needing, it's causing a stress on her liver.  It doesn't have what it needs to flush toxins properly causing her jaundice.  Aside from her not being able to eat properly, if this is not corrected asap she will continue to have problems eating, it will affect her breathing when she sleeps and can cause significant speech impediments as she learns to speak.  Her lip tie will cause dental issues when her teeth start coming in.  Having this procedure done now will save her so many health problems in the future.

Unfortunately there are no providers in Tyler that can do the procedure she needs to correct this so we need to take her to Clear Fork Dental in Fort Worth where they specialize in this specific procedure.

Our insurance only covers medical, and this is considered a dental procedure.  We are struggling pretty hard to keep our heads above water financially at the moment.  We've accumulated so many medical expenses since I had to be transferred to the hospital with serious complications hours after Allison was born.  With Mark working 2 jobs, 70+ hours a week, and sharing a home with my parents, we don't qualify for Medicaid or assistance of any kind. We could add this expense to our mounting credit card debt, but we would be overwhelmingly blessed if our friends could help assist us with this procedure for Allison.

We need to get this done asap so we can get back to raising a happy, healthy, thriving baby girl.  Any donation, any amount, would mean the world to us!!  Thank you!
