MAJOR SURGERY FOR OUR WEE SAUSAGE
This is our boy Lionel, he's a beautiful 5 year old Miniature Dachshund that is absolutely full of beans but has been struck down with a terrible spinal injury which has resulted in some pretty full on surgery for such a small dog.
My sister Nikki and I have had to cover in excess of $12,000 worth of vet costs (so far) and whilst we have pet insurance, the insurance doesn’t cover the full amount (and we are out of pocket quite a bit as we had to pay the full amount up front ourselves). Because of this, we’re turning to other animal lovers like yourself for help. This is not something we’d imagine we’d ever have to do, but we do what we must when a family member is in need and we are immensely thankful if you’ve read this far and are willing to read a little further.
Lionel’s had extensive spinal surgery to correct affected discs along his back (IVDD affects ¼ Dachshunds - even the healthy weighted ones like our little guy), through no fault of his own he was struck down with it (it can sadly happen to any dog, of any age and of any weight).
Lionel is an incredible soul - he helped me through some pretty hard times, sat by our dad when he broke his foot and also supported our mum as a constant companion during her cancer treatment - so getting his back fixed was a no brainer… paying for it however continues to be a real struggle for our family.
Our pet insurance has been pretty good but the costs aren’t 100% covered (and ongoing physio and follow up treatments are going to be needed) recovery won’t be quick, but he’s a determined little bloke and we’re going to do whatever is needed to see him happily back on all 4 feet.
The goal we’re aiming to achieve is to cover the gap that wasn’t covered by our pet insurance, the ongoing costs related to his physio treatment and any further follow-up appointments related to his spinal surgery. I’d also like to confirm that any funds leftover after he has recovered will be proudly forwarded to Dachshund Rescue Australia (a truly amazing charity dedicated to helping Dachshunds Australia wide - Ruth & Sharman from DRA are incredible people who do great things for us sausage folk!).
Any help with getting our Lionel his wiggle back will be immensely appreciated!
