Lindsey Lueck's Lung Transplant

Lindsey was referred to the transplant clinic at the University of Washington in Seattle for a double lung transplant. The transplant surgery will be covered by insurance, but she will have several large expenses that are not covered by insurance.

When she gets the call that an organ match has been found for her she has only 4 hours to get to surgery. This requires a special charter plane or air ambulance ride from Spokane and possible ambulance ride to the hospital from the airfield. She has received quotes of $5,000-$12,000 for these unique flights.

Following the transplant and release from the hospital, Lindsey and a caregiver will need to live in an apartment in a facility called Transplant House near the clinic for at least three months. This will cost at least $9,000.

Dan will take time off of work to be available as much as possible for Lindsey and their children, ages 8, 6, and 3.

There will also be many trips made between Spokane and Seattle before the surgery and after the three month stay.

Lindsey will be required to many medications daily for the rest of her life to prevent organ rejection which can be quite expensive.
