Supporting Lindsay

Don protégé

This is Jayme, Lindsay's sister, and I am writing to help recruit support in alleviating the burden of the financial aspect of Lindsay's recent breast cancer diagnosis.  (See full story below).  Lindsay has many important life decisions to make in the very near future and I do not want financial worries to play into these. As most of you know, having a family has been #1 on Lindsay's list of priorities forever. As she mentioned, her treatment plan includes a 90% chance of requiring chemotherapy. This treatment is the only one she will receive that could render her unable to have a child. She does have the option of harvesting eggs before receiving chemo but this comes at a substantial cost. Unfortunately time is also of utmost importance and she has to make these decisions quickly within the next few days! The financial burden of all of her treatment is expected to cost upwards of $10,000 and that is a huge concern for her that we are hopeful to help alleviate. Please know that any amount you are able to give helps tremendously and that she will be eternally grateful!

In Lindsay's words, "I found a lump in my left breast around March 21. I was super busy preparing for my mission trip to Haiti so I scheduled an appointment with my OBGYN the day after I returned. I saw the OBGYN on April 6. She stated that she thought it might be a cyst and sent me for testing. I went to an imaging center to get ultrasounds, mammograms, and biopsies. They called me on April 18 and informed me that I have invasive ductile carcinoma (i.e. breast cancer). They sent me for an MRI. The ultrasound showed 2 tumors whereas the MRI showed it more as one large tumor. It is stage 2 (given the size being about 4.4cm) and grade 3 (which means it is a more aggressive cancer). We (my parents, sister, boyfriend, and I) have met with many different doctors in the past week and a half. We are collecting information and seeking second opinions. With our significant family history, we know surgery is a must, chemo is a most likely, and radiation is unknown. We also met with a fertility doctor to discuss options for future family planning. I had blood drawn today for genetic testing. We will not get the results back for 3 weeks. This will give some more information regarding risk for developing another breast cancer or other type of cancer. This will also shed more light on surgery options. There are still some unknowns and I will need to make a lot of decisions in the upcoming weeks.  Thank you again for your continued prayers. I know that God has me and will use me through all of this. He has blessed me with a peace and strength that is beyond understanding."

Thank you all again from the bottom of my heart!!!! As you all know I would do anything for her and know that all of you feel the same way! Thank you for all your support and prayers!
