Recently my mother was pulled over in Texas for a broken taillight. I'm sure she didn't realize what it would become. My mom being a trusting woman agreed to allow the officer to search her car, only for him to find some home made cannibis chocolates. My mother was told that she could go but that he was sending the chocolate to the lab for testing and that if the test came back positive for cannibis a warrant would be issued for her arrest and that he would call her if this happened. 

The test did come back positive but she did not recieve the call he promised. My mom decided to then travel to California to sell Tie Dyes were she was pulled over again. She was detained in the Imperial County Jail and is held there currently until she is extradited to Texas to face charges. Texas being a prohibitionist state considers cannibis chocolate to be a concentrated form of THC and therefor she will be facing felony charges and possibly years in prison for having edibles.

My mom suffers from a thyroid condition called graves disease and she self medicates with cannibis to relieve pain. This ridiculous charge for a naturally occuring plant is outrageous, my mother is a kind loving woman and she is facing possible time for a victimless crime due to outdated drug laws. 

Any money raised would be first and foremost be put to use for attorney fees, I am hoping to hire an attorney that will get these charges dismissed and I do not want to rely on a public defender to do this. If we raise more money than necessary to cover her law fees the remainder will be used to cover loss of income while she has been in jail without bail.

Any donations would be greatly appreciated, in addition to sharing this story I want to help grow awareness on the ridiculous drug laws for marijuana based offenses in Texas. With the growing amount of state legalization and research into the medical benefits of cannibis and cannibinoids this is a gross injustice to put away a woman for such a harmless "crime".
