Linda (Future Black) to Aotearoa
Backstory
Linda is raising funds to get to Aotearoa (New Zealand) for a cultural exchange to share and learn about architectural design, self-determination and sovereignty from international First Nation’s designers.
In 2017, I established Future Black Design Studio as a social enterprise with a focus on decolonising design in the built environment.
I've been invited to present my work at the NaTe Kore 2nd Biennial International Indigenous Design Forum from 2-5 March 2018 in Otautahi (Christchurch). The Forum will highlight international First Nation’s designers and will also host the launch of a new book “Our Voices - Indigeneity and Architecture” which includes an article that I've written.

$3,000 of funds raised will assist me to get to Aotearoa in March 2018 including:
- Passport costs (This will be my first time overseas!)
- Flights (Sydney/Christchurch return)
- Airport transfers (Wollongong/Sydney and Christchurch/Tuahiwi)
- Attendance costs for the Na Te Kore International Indigenous Design Forum.
Goal 2 - $5,000 - GOAL MET!!
+$2,000 of funds raised will assist me to work on research and documentation for a creative development (podcast!) collaboration with First Nations designers and creatives DECOLONING DESIGN & CREATIVE PRACTICE. I'm aiming for the podcast to be live in 2018!
Goal 3 - Anything over $5,000
Any additional funding over $5,000 will support me to extend my exchange including:

- Travel costs to continue development working with First Nations designers and creatives on both the North and South islands for the DECOLONISING DESIGN podcast
- Costs to collate and edit audio documentation for the podcast when I return to Yuin country
Linda’s work
My work at Future Black is based on decolonisation through community design projects, and I advocate for decolonisation through my writing, public talks and workshops. I'm often asked to present public talks and workshops in an unpaid capacity, and in return, your support will assist me to develop my skills and knowledge as I often share my skills and knowledge for free!
How can you help?
By donating to my GoFundMe to get to Aotearoa, your assistance will support my work through:
- Supporting cultural exchange with international First Nations designers
- Building connections with First Nations women in design
- Establishing connections for future design research
- Highlighting Yuin design knowledge on an international platform
- Supporting international knowledge to come back to Yuin country and other Australian Aboriginal nations
THANK YOU!
