Lily's Treasure Chest

When a child is diagnosed with cancer, there are many resources to help with the financial challenges. One thing that was realized as we went through our journey was that the time to receive treatment was very long. First comes blood work and waiting for results, then the chemotherapy is activated and has to be made, and finally the chemotherapy will be administered. What would a small child do for that long?

Our daughter, Lily, was diagnosed with a Wilm's Tumor December 29th 2016. The tumor was removed and the process moved quickly; we are already on our seventh week of chemotherapy treatments. Lily is a strong little girl and is progressing very well so our days at the hospital aren't as long as many others. Each Monday we drive two hours for treatment and meet nurse Tracy. She takes Lily on a "date" to the Oncology treasure chest  before treatment. This "date" is the only thing Lily looks forward to. Usually she finds a book or puzzle to amuse her, but one day nurse Tracy opened it there was little to nothing. At that point, I knew that something had to be done to put a smile on other children's face each time they receive their treatment.

Lily's Treasure Chest will be a non-profit organization that will provide books, puzzles, coloring books, small toys, etc. to children before their receive chemotherapy treatments. A portion of the funding will be used to begin the organization and the remaining funds will be directly used to purchase all items for the children. If enough money is raised, we would like to expand the charity to teens as well to provide books, hand-held games, etc.
