My name is Lily Folpp. I am 17 yo and come from country NSW Australia. From the age of 5 I have dreamed of becoming a Professional Ballerina.
A fortnight ago, I was offered a place at Central School of Ballet in London. The placement includes BA (Hons) Degree in Professional Dance Performance through the University of Kent. Usually a 3 year degree however, due to my current results in years 11 & 12 and 2 Tafe certificates I have undertaken, I have been offered a placement as a second year student and will earn my degree at 19 years of age. It has taken years of very hard work and dedication to get this far.
The cost of the degree and Ballet Schooling is AUD$29,000pa plus a $10,000 deposit. More than my mum earned last year! This really is a once in a lifetime opportunity and offers such as these for foreign students are not commonplace. School commences in September and the fees have to be paid in full in advance on the registration day. The deposit is refunded on completion of the course in 2019 and I would donate this refund to another Go Fund Me page for someone else to benefit.
To perform classical ballet is no longer a dream. It will be my career and it is my ambition to bring this wonderful art to inspire and be enjoyed by many.
On completion of my VCE/HSC, and Bachelor of Arts, I will study Sports Psychology whilst performing professionally. Being involved in Ballet and competitive sport from a very young age has demonstrated to me just how important psychology is to produce a well rounded athlete.
This April, on my own, I embarked on a week and a half long tour of Germany, Switzerland and London to take class at Pre Professional Ballet Schools – the next step for my training. I am 5 foot 10 inches tall, so opportunities in Australia are limited. I paid for this trip entirely myself from my own funds that I started saving at 9 when I won my first $25 at a local ballet competition. My savings are made up of ballet prizes and money earned from a part time cleaning job. My savings are now drained but without having used them I could never have had this new opportunity. Mum does not have the means to help this part of my journey.
This journey has lead me to my request for you to help me if you can. I have never raised money before but I am asking for anyone that can help me to please do. Every dollar will count. If enough people see this and everyone gives a dollar, I can achieve my goal. If you can’t donate, even sharing my post is helpful and I appreciate you reading my story. Please know that I will always be eternally grateful for any assistance that you are able to provide.
