Not One More Teen - Suicide Prevention Event

Donation protected
Suicide has hit our community hard. Students from several local high schools have taken the drastic step of ending their lives. The urgency of it all catches my breath. It’s like coming up on a bad car accident where the young drivers are trapped inside. You. Me. We’d stop. We’d run over. We’d claw our way through whatever we could to get to the lives inside. Our teens are trapped today. Depression. Isolation. Stress. Darkness. The trap is harder to see than a car accident, but the sense of urgency is the same.

We have to do something!

On April 5th, 2019, Woodmen Heights of Colorado Springs will host our suicide prevention event called “Light up the Dark - for you, for your friends.” We want to fight for our teens through this inspiring event. We will use music, dance, resources, giveaways, great speakers and quality content.

Will you please help us? The church is hosting, but we are raising the funds for it. Your funds will be used for marketing (we will do sponsored ads to local youth through instagram), the giveaways (connecting giveaways that will help them build relationship), resources (cinch backpacks of info for them to access after the event), water bottles and bracelets to remind them of hope.  Any amount helps and every penny will go to helping these teens fight for life - individually and for their friends. Please consider donating, sharing this link and partnering with us to come alongside teens in El Paso County.

If you would like to contribute to a specific need (i.e. marketing, supplying the backpacksor sponsoring a giveaway, please leave a note with your donation or message me through the instagram below).

For more of the back story:

Suicide has touched my life in many ways. As a result, I wrote a blog about two years ago to the heartbroken. From that blog I was invited to speak at a suicide prevention event in Iowa. It was powerful to be part of something so beautiful, and I felt God tugging at my heart to continue the fight. After prayer and talking with friends, I moved forward to create a suicide prevention event in Colorado Springs. I approached my home church and asked if they would be willing to host… and a dream was born. I’ve been meeting now with a team of volunteers for nearly a year. We are planning our event to include educated and inspiring speakers, powerful music and visual arts, along with giveaways that will encourage connection and community. We also hope to provide resources for teens who may be struggling, but also for those who have friends who are hurting - we’d like to provide the resources in a format that will last - i.e. nice folders inside a cinch backpack. Inside the folders will be ways to get help personally, ways to help friends and also content to help teens find purpose/hope.

If there are any additional funds remaining after the event is covered, we will prayerfully look at doing other events to love and support our teens.

Thank you for coming alongside the teens of El Paso County!
