EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT…………..July 9, 2019...........Ponsonby Field of Dreams Fundraiser Successfully Ends!



Our Light up the Night fundraising campaign has reached its goal!


With the recent donations received from the Jays Care Foundation, MJM Electric Limited and County of Wellington along with funds raised from the 3rd Annual Light up the Night 3 Pitch Tournament, we are able to proceed with Phase II, B Diamond light replacement.



In just over 27 months, Ponsonby Recreation Club, with the generous financial support of the community, corporate and service clubs, we have reached our goal.  In 2018, the lights on A Diamond were replaced.  Phase II, Diamond B construction will begin in October 2019 when the park closes for the season.



Thank you to one and all!  Because of you, our Field of Dreams continues to service the families and children of our community.

Ponsonby Field of Dreams NEEDS YOU……..

This plea is directed to the friends of the Ponsonby Recreation Park that has provided a site for baseball in Ariss, Ontario since the 1960s.  We are a nonprofit corporation with the land deeded to the park.  In order to continue as a viable venue, the lights for both Diamonds A and B must be replaced.  Unless these lights are replaced in the near future, there will be huge safety concerns.  Our goal is to raise $148,000 for this renovation over the next year. 

There have been thousands of participants—from age 4 to adult— who played ball at our park over the years.  We are located in a rural area that is central to several small communities; youngsters and adults can participate in ball programs without commuting to larger centres.  Fun, exercise and good sportsmanship are encouraged.  The park’s success is the result of our dedicated group of volunteers that have continued to promote baseball for nearly 50 years.

We also provide the Centre Wellington community with a facility to host family, company, community baseball, picnics and fundraisers.  Annually, our club hosts the “Tom Rider Memorial Men’s Fast Pitch Tournament” that supports Groves Memorial Hospital in Fergus. 

Above all, we are concerned about safety…… 

This renovation involves the removal of current lighting, installation of new poles and installation of new wiring and energy efficient lighting.  The metal poles are over 40 years old and have corroded.  Several braces have worn through and no longer provide stability to the light standards.  All poles will be replaced and upgraded with copper wiring and energy efficient lights.  Beyond player safety, this initiative will significantly reduce energy use. 

My name is Steve Warmington and I am the chairman of the Ponsonby Recreation Park.  I have always been involved in coaching team sports.  It is part of my identity; it is who I am.  Ponsonby has been a huge part of my life for nearly 30 years; I have coached teams at all levels from t-ball to junior.  I have made so many special friends that belong to the Ponsonby family.  The park provides a healthy environment for our children and community.  My children learned their baseball skills at Ponsonby.  Now it is my children’s children that have the opportunity to play ball in a safe, nurturing environment because this park exists.  The circle of life continues…….
