Ponsonby Field of Dreams NEEDS YOU!
This plea is directed to the friends of the Ponsonby Recreation Park that has provided a site for baseball in Ariss, Ontario since the 1960s. We are a nonprofit corporation with the land deeded to the park. In order to continue as a viable venue, the lights for both Diamonds A and B must be replaced. Unless these lights are replaced in the near future, there will be huge safety concerns. Our goal is to raise $148,000 for this renovation over the next year.
There have been thousands of participants—from age 4 to adult— who played ball at our park over the years. We are located in a rural area that is central to several small communities; youngsters and adults can participate in ball programs without commuting to larger centres. Fun, exercise and good sportsmanship are encouraged. The park’s success is the result of our dedicated group of volunteers that have continued to promote baseball for nearly 50 years.
We also provide the Centre Wellington community with a facility to host family, company, community baseball, picnics and fundraisers. Annually, our club hosts the “Tom Rider Memorial Men’s Fast Pitch Tournament” that supports Groves Memorial Hospital in Fergus.
Above all, we are concerned about safety……
This renovation involves the removal of current lighting, installation of new poles and installation of new wiring and energy efficient lighting. The metal poles are over 40 years old and have corroded. Several braces have worn through and no longer provide stability to the light standards. All poles will be replaced and upgraded with copper wiring and energy efficient lights. Beyond player safety, this initiative will significantly reduce energy use.
My name is Steve Warmington and I am the chairman of the Ponsonby Recreation Park. I have always been involved in coaching team sports. It is part of my identity; it is who I am. Ponsonby has been a huge part of my life for nearly 30 years; I have coached teams at all levels from t-ball to junior. I have made so many special friends that belong to the Ponsonby family. The park provides a healthy environment for our children and community. My children learned their baseball skills at Ponsonby. Now it is my children’s children that have the opportunity to play ball in a safe, nurturing environment because this park exists. The circle of life continues…….
Friends of Ponsonby Recreation Park—please think of what this ball park has meant to you and donate generously so this gem can continue to serve future generations in our rural community.

- The lights are down and electrical wires pulled from the conduit; we are able to reuse the conduit.
- The Scoreboard is attached and Wi-Fi line for the wireless monitor is to be installed this week;
- The concrete base for the poles is in and waiting for the concrete poles;
- A new “main on/off panel” is required on the Diamond A pole due to aging of equipment.
We have come a long way thanks to your support and are counting on you to help us reach our goal. It is our hope that Diamond B can be upgraded in 2018.
For every donation we have received, there are many more yet to come. Please spread the work to Ponsonby parents and participants.
Thanks for your support.
This doesn't mean we are rich. It means we need more financial support. So spread the word and let's make this happen.
A big thank you to all our supporters--both those who have been part of the park in years gone by and those who use it presently. Without you, this project could not begin.
For every donation we have received, there are many more yet to come. With your support we can meet our goal. Don't delay; donate today!
Help us light up the night in our field of dreams.
The 2nd Annual Light Up The Night 3-Pitch Tournament is being planned for June 8th, 9th and 10th, 2018. Last year this fun event raised $8,000 for our Light Up The Night Campaign.
The picture below is the Warmington Family and Associates team that was entered into the Family Fun Tournament. As you can see by the happy faces, a good time was enjoyed by all.
Mark you calendars and come out and join the fun while raising money for our field of dreams.

Thank you to all our supporters. With your support we are getting closer to our goal. Please continue to reach out to your neighbours and family members for their support of the lighting project. The park has been an important part of our community for almost 50 years. Lets make sure it is here for another 50 years +. Without new lights we will be unable to continue some of our youth and adult fastball programs. Donate today.
Thank you to Don Smith and his crew from MJM Electric Limited. Hopefully the weather holds out for you.
So much fun. The Bakker clan will be joining in the family division once again minus a few who will now manage the team from the sidelines. See you in the spring.
Thank you to all our supporters. Keep passing along the plea for donations to family, friends and community. We are hoping to start our rebuild in October but will need your help.
Congratulations Jr. Sting. You boys were awesome this past weekend. It truly was a pleasure hosting this tournament, especially when I had a home grown team participating that I could cheer on. Well done boys. Thanks to the local community for all your support. Your generous donation is truly appreciated. Spread the word.
Thank you to all the families that attended the ISA Atom Boys year end tournament Aug 10- 13th . Your support of our ball diamond lights project was tremendous.
Tom started this tournament before he passed away, to raise funds for Groves Memorial Hospital. The Club continues to honour his memory. We annually raise a toast to Tom and ask that he work his magic to limit the amount of rainfall so play can continue. Love the team picture. How young you were back then. Challenge each other to make a donation to our light fund. See you at the park...
Come out and cheer on your friends and neighbours. Friday night 7pm Bakker Clan vs Zinger Family.... What Ponsonby vs Maryhill.....hope to see you there.
