Who is Nickie?
Nickie Smith is a wonderful, loving wife to me and mother to our three children. She brightens the room with her smile, tames our hearts with her voice, and enriches our souls with her heart.
Why does she need help?
Nickie has serious health issues with which she has been struggling such as:
-diabetes
-crippling back injuries
-arthritis in her knees
All are related to her weight. She has worked for years to lose that weight in every conventional way possible, but with her injuries and near-constant pain, she is unable to do the physical activities needed to lose the weight.
What surgery does she need?
Her doctors have strongly recommended bariatric (gastric bypass) surgery, not just to reduce her weight, but also to save her life. However, our insurance does not cover this surgery and we cannot afford to pay for it soon enough for it to really help.
She will be turning 40 this coming year, and if she isn't able to get this surgery soon, we're afraid she won't live to see 50. Won't see her children become adults, won't get to meet her grandchildren.

Our goal
Our goal is to raise the money we need to pay for her surgery (and related procedures), in cash, before December 31, 2018. If we can do that, she would hopefully be able to have the surgery before the end of 2019, greatly increasing her chances of living a long, fruitful life.
What will you be helping us do
We will use whatever money we can raise to pay for any procedures, appointments, and programs that aren't covered under our insurance, including the surgery and post-surgery procedures themselves. Anything we can't afford out-of-pocket.
