Life Saving Medical Assistance for Miguel Alvarado

Donation protected
My name is Jessica, and Miguel is my dad. His battle for life started 2 days after Thanksgiving in 2018, that all started with a simple pneumonia. During this hospital stay, he went into complete renal failure. We knew that dialysis and a kidney transplant was to be expected in the future. Unfortunately, we weren't expecting his kidneys to give up so suddenly.

At the time of his admission in November, he was attending renal classes to learn about the types of dialysis, and to be placed on the transplant list in hopes of receiving a kidney. Those plans were now on hold.

After his hospital release in December, Miguel spent an exorbitant amount of time recuperating, and settling into the new routine of Hemo-dialysis. This would be the norm until he was strong enough to undergo surgery for a peritoneal dialysis port. Thankfully, he was ready for the port to be done in January.

Thinking life would return to a new norm, this wasn't the case...

With many more 1-2 day hospital stays, we thought things would improve. It would not be so, starting with a letter we received informing us that my dad was deemed ineligible for a kidney through the TGH program. We would need to seek a private donor.

On April 7, 2019, Miguel was admitted to the hospital again. This time things were serious, more so than ever. Miguel was diagnosed with another pneumonia. This time however, he placed in a medically induced coma resulting in necessary breathing and feeding tubes. It would be a weeks before he was ready to be transferred to rehab.

On May 3, 2019, after many denials from the insurance company, and countless appeals later, my dad was finally ready for rehab! Again, we thought that things would now start looking up... Again, we were wrong... We knew he needed to build up his strength, and learn to do things that you or I take for granted ever day. Simple things like using our hands, walking, brushing our teeth, combing our hair, using the bathroom, eating and drinking on our own... My dad, my hero, was a newborn again.

On May 14, 2019, I woke up to messages that no one person should have to wake up to. My was experiencing chest pains and transported from rehab to the hospital. My dad had a heart attack. His system wasn't being filtered enough through peritoneal dialysis, and he was now overloaded.

He was given a temporary emergency port to have hemo-dialysis to rid his body of toxins. Yesterday he received a permanent hemo-dialysis catheter. He hasn't been released back to rehab as of yet because they are still running tests to ensure/repair any damage done by the heart attack.

My mom, bless her soul, has spent every day through every hospital stay by his side. My dad is her whole life. For 41 years, they have taken their vows very seriously, and when they said in sickness and in health, they sure did mean it.

Unfortunately, their situation is precarious. My dad only receives SSI. My mom was employed to help make ends meet, however due to my dad's medical needs she was let go from her position on Christmas Eve. I still can't fathom how any employer would fire a dedicated employee without giving her any other options, not to mention doing it on Christmas Eve.

My parents have exhausted  all of their resources. Their bills are mounting, their credit cards are maxed out on copays and coinsurance. They are sinking fast, and have no other options. These are selfless people who would offer help to anyone in need, from a sofa to sleep on or hot meal in your tummy. Its sad to see them smile knowing that they are struggling so very hard.

We are currently seeking donations to cover medical finances, and hopefully a kidney. My dad's blood type is B+.

My mom is currently spending her days with my dad from 7 am - 9 pm. Commutes 35-40 minutes home where she sits pondering over the mounting bills and how they will be paid.

Myself, my sister and my brother are doing all we can to help them through this difficult time. It will be a real blessing for Jason, Justin, Logan, Jaxon and Little Amelia to have their Pop back.

No donation is too little. Anything is something for them right now. We are hoping to have funds raised a few weeks time.
