Life Jacket Loaner Station(s)

$3,175 of $2,000 goal

Wallace Marine Park and Keizer Rapids Park at one point in time had life jacket loaner stations. Unfortunately both stations have been removed. My husband and I started this project after hearing about a child who had drown while playing with his family. Tragedies like this are so easily prevented, especially when there is convenient access to life saving equipment. Currently we are working with the City of Salem to get a station set up near the pedestrian bridge so we can provide this life saving equipment. This endeavor is not cheap, life jackets are approximately $20 each and when I initially purchased the first 13, I only knew that one station was removed, not both. This money will go towards the purchase of life jackets, materials for the station and 2 signs, one for Wallace Marine Park and the other Keizer Rapids Park (which already had a station, no sign or jacket). Any additional money will go towards extra life jackets to replace the one that are stolen throughout the year. Thank you.

A lot has happened since my last update! After this cause got some much needed attention from news organizations, it looks like the city is going to take over. They want to construct their own life jacket kiosk, and thanked me for all the hard work I put in. They are planning to install 2 stations at Wallace Marine Park, but I am unsure when this will take place. In the mean time, I have installed a station at Keizer Rapids and plan on doing a temporary station at Wallace Marine until the city decides to build theirs. Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who has helped get this thing started!

I received an email from the city of Salem approving of the Wallace Marine Park sign placement on August 4th! Thank you for all the support. The continued donations will be used for additional life jackets! Keizer Rapids Park station will be installed this week and hopefully Wallace Marine Park will have at least a temporary station set up soon too.
