Lexi's Hip Surgery

Donation protected
Lexi is a 5 year old Cerebral Palsy Warrior who came into this world fighting for her life and continues to fight everyday.

Lexi's cerebral palsy affects both her legs and arms. Lexi’s musles are very tight and this makes it difficult for her to make any type of movement.   Lexi’s hips are currently 60% out of the socket and will only continue to come more out of the socket if surgery isn’t performed. There are many options out there and I have weighted the pros and cons of each to see which is the best for Lexi.

I have been in contact with  a Doctor in Texas that performes a surgery called Café  Door. The Café Door surgery consists of three parts done as one surgery. The first is to clean out the hip socket so that the ball has space to go back in. The second is to guide the ball back into the socket by cutting and repositioning the upper part of the thigh bone. The third is to reinforce the area with a simultaneous SLOB surgery. The SLOB surgery will add bone, so that the ball is blocked from moving farther out of the socket.
The unique feature of the Café Door surgery is that the upper part of the thigh bone that includes the ball is placed in a flexed position. This position
gently persuades the ball to stay in the socket, so that it can grow in place there. This surgery will keep the hips from coming out of the socket again. Only 2 doctors in the USA perform this surgery. I have sent x-rays and talked with the doctor who feels that this surgery could help Lexi to be more comfortable and maybe even help her to be able to take more steps in her walker. The time to have this surgery done is now if we wait much longer it will be too late as Lexi will be in pain and miserable.

This surgery will take place in Galveston Texas Summer 2018.  Lexi will be in the hospital for 9 days. The surgery is not covered by Lexi's insurance and we will be paying out of pocket for travel hospital/doctor bills. Any amount contributed is greatly appreciated and will help Lexi to hopefully one day be able to consistently move her legs more freely and be painfree.

Thanks for all your support
