She is enrolled at the University of New Orleans pursuing a nursing career, loves spending time with her younger cousins and friends, and never misses a cuddle session with our 100# fur baby Sully. Lexi is also different in many ways. 3 years ago she began having unexplained fainting spells and a lack of energy. After months of testing at several different local hospitals it was determined that she had Vasovagal Syncope with severe Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome or P.O.T.S. This disorder affects her blood flow and blood pressure.  Her team of doctors which includes a cardiologist, a neurologist, a immunologist, a endocrinologist,  and a gastroenterologist started treating the condition with several different medications and IV fluids which worked for the most part for around 18 months and then things started to get worse. Lexi began to experience severe nausea, abdominal pain, and GI issues. The abdominal pain was her gallbladder so she had that removed and was prescribed more meds for the other issues. She seemed to be doing a lot better after her procedure until about a month ago when testing revealed that the medication she had been taking to control her P.O.T.S. is shutting her organs down. Her doctors stopped them immediately but that now has her back at square one. The fainting and exhaustion has returned and IV fluids are needed once or twice a week which has put a strain on her veins so an infusion port was inserted to help with that process. After 3 years her doctors have informed us that nothing more can be done here in New Orleans and suggested we go to the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida to continue Lexi's testing and treatment.  The Mayo Clinic specializes in the treatment and recovery of this condition so this is a trip that must be made for my daughter.  Like most of the people this day in age my family lives paycheck to paycheck so extra money is very scarce. Even with insurance the medical bills and deductibles have cleaned us out financially.  The trip to Jacksonville will entail my wife Erika having to leave her job and income for several weeks to several months to accompany Lexi, room and board for the same amount of time along with gas costs. Our family has always been a very proud one and has avoided asking for help when we could but to watch our daughter go through this my pride has to take a backseat. I am asking for anyone that can help to please do so. We just want our little princess to be able to enjoy her life and make a difference.

Thank you all and God bless

Just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone again for the donations. We are very thankful to have such loving family members and friends during this difficult time. On a positive note we finally used our zoo pass today and got ourselves outdoors today since the weather was amazing. Lexi had to split time between walking and being in a wheelchair but it was a successful none the less. Once again, thank you all so so much.
