Let’s Save Maker Faire!!!
LET’S SAVE MAKER FAIRE!
Our team at MATRIX Labs just read the surprising news that “Maker Faire” is shutting down operations and seem to be fighting to keep the lights on:
Apart from the article, we don’t know the actual status, size of debt, business inner workings, or potential liabilities.
We launched our company at the National Maker Faire in 2016 and we just came back from the Bay Area Maker Faire in San Mateo. We love Maker Faire. So many memories. They have brought the Maker community into the limelight and in addition to ourselves, we have seen so many people of all ages and walks of life get inspired and amazed by what they have experienced at Maker Faire's.
It would be so sad to see Maker Faire and MAKE: Magazine truly disappear. Perhaps this GoFundMe campaign can accumulate enough support to give Dale Dougherty, CEO of Maker Faire, the needed time to find a real solution and pass through this moment to restructure the business in a healthier financial position.
The idea is to accumulate immediate funds, so he can keep the servers on, as per his words on the TechCrunch article. If this campaign is successful, we promise to keep you in the know of all the steps which would be taken.
In the case there is no success in this campaign, it was worth the last-minute effort to save a “Maker Institution,” that positively impacted so many curious minds globally.
100% of the funds would go to Maker Media but even if the campaign is successful, we would still need to speak with Dale to see if the funds raised can actually help. If not, then all funds would be immediately returned to everyone.
Please spread the word. Let’s explore if this funding can actually give MAKE the time it needs to find a real solution.
Open to your thoughts and ideas. Just like they helped build our community, maybe we can pay it back now!
