Help Us Launch an Artist Co-Op!!

Donation protected
Art is consumed insatiably by society: from music and literature, visual arts and graphic design, to multimedia and performing arts, our practices fuel innovation, spur cultural rebirth and give purpose to life. Yet, the artistic community struggles to thrive. “The Starving Artist,” a term familiar to us all, represents the challenges we face as artists while pursuing our passions and bringing our creativity to market. The time and effort needed to master our process often comes with disadvantages, as the business side of art is seen as secondary to bringing our visions to life. A lack of traditional business skills has led to lack of ownership for artists’ creative capital and has encouraged an environment built on exploitation. Viewed as a commodity, society has outsourced our services, undervalued our talents and disinvested our impact away from our communities.

The time has come for artists to unite and secure our future. Collectively, we can create an unstoppable force that sets new industry standards and develops an inclusive model to advance our fellow creatives.

To start this, the Creative Labs and Section1 will be restructuring its business model to that of a Freelance Artists Co-Op. The organization will take the form of a Benefit Corporation, and serve to advance our artist members via;

1) Development of freelance agency representation and backend business support.
2) Promotion of member services through an online marketplace
3) Access to creative coworking and production studios (www.createbmore.com )
4) Democratic representation through self organized artists guilds.
5) Exclusive access to co-op owned investment opportunities.

(Artist memberships will be available to any self-identified artists, patronage memberships open to all. )

While we dream big, we must start small. Our next step in these goals is setting up the new legal structure, crafting our Bylaws, and appointing a interim board of directors.

Pledge your interest in joining our Co-Op by contributing $5 and sharing this campaign!

Among our many obstacles in moving forward are cultivating adequate funding to ensure our mission stays on focus, while also maintaining operations. We need your help to do this! The Creative Labs is currently offering multiple membership packages. In addition to the benefits listed here, it is our intention to retroactively credit all Artist/Patron Members with any additional benefits set forth in the new Bylaws, including but not limited to, Membership Shares.

Help us reach our goal of 100 members by Feburary 3rd, 2018!
