Seid Taha is 11 yrs old boy. He was born in a small town, Emidibir(in Gurage zone), Ethiopia. He has been suffering from a heavy headache, and rarely falls as well.
In June 2018, he went through a medical examination (including Magnetic resonance Imaging, MRI) at Blackline Hospital in Addis Ababa, which shows that the patient has a huge brain tumor (rule out right thalamic origin).
The tumor was already huge, and it is spreading rapidly, thereby, the doctors' recommended immediate removal of it. Thus, the MRI result sent to Vejthani Hospital in Bangkok for further examination, indeed, the same result is reported.
His family decided to seek him a better treatment, therefore, they sent him to abroad to Vejthani Hospital (Bangkok) where he underwent the brain surgery that lasted for 14 hours although it was initially estimated to be done within 7-8 hours. The doctors removed only 40% of the tumor and halted the procedure due to too much bleeding, long hours of operation, and the size of the tumor itself.
The doctors were expecting him to be conscious within 48-72 hours, but, fifteen days have already elapsed. The boy is not yet awake. As of this letter is written, he is still in ICU room taking food with a nasogastric tube. The doctors again recommended another surgery to remove the remaining 60% of the tumor. However, his family’s financial capability couldn’t afford to cover the remaining medical expenses.
The initial cost asked by the hospital was 960,000 THB(~ $28,725.31). This covers 6-7 hours of operation, 2 nights in ICU and 5 nights in the ward hospital admission. This amount was settled by his family before the beginning of the operation. However, as mentioned above, the operation went far beyond the expected due to the heaviness of the tumor so did the cost high rocketed. Every single additional day stays in the hospital costs around 90,000 THB(~$2,693.00), and the remaining part of the surgery costs almost the same amount as the first one, if not more. But, this becomes impossible for the family.
At this moment the families have no better options. They can't afford the remaining part. It is most probably to stop the treatment and take the boy back to his home (Ethiopia). Again, this is not an easy option as well as the boy is not conscious and cannot able to sit upright. He needs all the necessary treatment all the way to reach another hospital in Ethiopia. A doctor and a nurse should accompany him on the plane. This whole process will cost about 670,000THB(~$20,179.06).
The third, which is, in fact, the worst option, is to see him dying. We don’t want this to happen; it is the real pain we are suffering from. This is why we tend to seek your immediate help. Every single penny you donate has a great value to save the life of our beloved son.
