Let's Help Bruna Larizza In Her Time of Need

Donation protected
Bruna Larizza is a woman in her late 30’s, who has lived and worked in Thunder Bay all her life.  She has been employed at a local hotel, and as well, has been supplying at the Lakehead Public School Board for the last 10 years as a Student Support Professional.  Her parents are Maria and Rosario, and her siblings are Joe and Lina.  Shane Cote is Bruna’s partner.

Bruna gave birth to her first child on July 11, 2019, a son, born prematurely at 32 weeks gestation.  Merely two weeks prior to delivering her child, Bruna was diagnosed with cancer after experiencing symptoms which forced her to discontinue working.  Furthermore, Bruna was forced to give up her apartment in Thunder Bay, as she can no longer afford the rent.  She has been hospitalized for some time now due to the severity of her symptoms.  Given the complexity of her combined diagnosis and pregnancy, Bruna was transferred from Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre to Ottawa General Hospital on July 7, 2019, to receive specialized oncology and maternal care.

Bruna learned shortly following her transfer to Ottawa General the full extent of her diagnosis.  She was told that she has Stage 4 lung cancer which has metastasized.  The ramifications of her diagnosis made the decisions of exactly how and when to deliver her child very difficult as there were life-threatening risks for both Bruna and her son.

Matteo, Bruna’s son, was born weighing 4 pounds. Bruna chose this special name as it means gift from God. The day following his birth, Matteo was diagnosed with a hole in his lung for which he is currently receiving treatment.

Current planned treatment for Bruna will result in costs of $9,000 per month, and is not covered by OHIP.  Bruna’s oncologist has submitted a request for grants to subsidize the cost of Bruna’s treatment.  She does not have benefits and does not receive income assistance.

Those of us who know and care for Bruna keep her and her family in our hearts and prayers. Bruna is a private person, and it is difficult for her to ask for help.  This is her time of greatest need!  We are appealing to anyone that knows Bruna and her family to consider making a financial contribution to help her and her family with the costs of accessing health care and support for herself and Matteo outside of Thunder Bay.  Bruna’s diagnosis is very grave and she needs to begin treatment urgently.  Any amount is greatly appreciated by Bruna and her family.
