Hello everyone!
My name is Rakeesha and I would like to ask a favor of you. Could you donate to a fundraising event for Let Girls Learn? Let Girls Learn is a U.S. government initiative launched by former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama in 2015. Let Girls Learn helps adolescent girls attain a quality
education and enables them to reach their full potential.
As part of the initiative, the Peace Corps Let Girls Learn Program encourages community-led solutions by empowering local leaders
to put lasting solutions in place. Peace Corps Volunteers who live and work at the grassroots level serve as catalysts of change. Your involvement can make a real difference.
More than 2,000 Peace Corps Volunteers led girls’ education and empowerment activities in over 60 countries last year.
In the last two years, 1,400 Peace Corps Volunteers, staff, and host country counterparts have been trained to respond to gender based
violence that prevents girls from learning in school and, in some cases, from attending school at all.
I had the honor of serving in the United States Peace Corps in South Africa from 2012-2014 as an English Teacher. During my service, I was exposed to the disparity of investment in boys’ education versus that of girls. However, I was also able to see firsthand how creating female centered programing had the potential to impact those girls for a lifetime.
I will host the LGL: Party for Change event on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Repair the World in Brooklyn, New York to support Let Girls Learn from 6:30 PM-8:30 PM. Cover charge is 10$. Guests will be treated to a night of live music from local musicians, hor 'd'oeuvres, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. The event will cost $835. We have raised the funds but additional donations are welcomed!!!!
