G20 Young Entrepreneurs' Summit

Donation protected

I'm an English major-turned-entrepreneur.  I'm one of 22 Canadian entrepreneurs selected to represent Canada at the G20 Young Entrepreneurs' Alliance Summit in Istanbul—and the only delegate from Nova Scotia.

I've been (not-so-smoothly) bootstrapping my way along, and now I need your support. Help me get from Halifax to Istanbul!

The Summit takes place September 7th-9th, 2015.

About me:

After graduating with a B.A. from Dalhousie University,  I  was peacefully working as an editor at a business magazine in Halifax. There I learned there's huge pain for small businesses trying to hire local talent. I was stunned—most of my friends had left the region due to lack of opportunities. The rest were actively looking for work.

To help bridge this gap I started posting jobs on my Facebook wall, effectively turning it into a job board.  Soon after I decided to create a more permanent solution and blasted into entrepreneurship full-time, starting my company WorkLocal.jobs (we use video to connect people to the right jobs fast).

You can peruse my LinkedIn here and find me on Twitter @LG_HFX . I care about youth employment, professional development, and Atlantic Canada (also coffee, creative writing, yoga, and guinea pigs).

Why this matters:

It is important that the Maritimes and Canada are well represented at the G20 YEA, to ensure our voice is heard in international conversations around youth entrepreneurship.

As a young entrepreneur involved in Nova Scotia's entrepreneurial and start-up scene I have an understanding of the challenges and strengths facing our young entrepreneurs, and would value the opportunity to address them on an international level. My past work at a Maritime business-to-business magazine left me with a strong base knowledge of the regional business community and economic situation.

Youth entrepreneurship is crucial to the future economic prosperity of Nova Scotia (we know this, and there are numerous programs and supports-- from Futurpreneur and CEED to Propel ICT's Launch36, Volta, and YES NS (Youth Entrepreneurship & Skills NS).

This is an important opportunity, and to be selected is an honor.

Where the funds will go:

-Conference registration
-Flight
-Accommodations
