11th Lesley E. Smith Memorial 5k

On Saturday, August 26th 2017, UD EMS will hold it's 11th Annual Lesley E. Smith Memorial 5k. This 5k is held each year to commemorate Lesley, a dedicated former member of UD EMS who passed away in 2008. Each year, this 5k helps UD EMS raise money for The Epilepsy Foundation in her honor. Lesley E. Smith was a devoted member of the (then) University of Dayton Rescue Squad for three years. She graduated from UD in May 2007 with dual degrees in Psychology and Spanish. Lesley served as the Personnel Officer for a year, and graciously stepped up to the plate her last semester when the current Personnel Officer resigned. She also worked hard through the promotion process to become a Crew Chief. Lesley was a great leader and gave countless hours of her time to the Rescue Squad. In addition to her selfless acts, she was a great mentor for fellow squad members. She was a very passionate, and charismatic person who always had a smile on her face.
Lesley passed away on January 30, 2008. She was pursuing a graduate degree at the University of Cincinnati. In honor of Lesley, the 5K is held annually to raise donations for The Epilepsy Foundation, which is dedicated to the welfare of the almost 3 million people with epilepsy in the U.S.
