Help Team go to World Championship

Tax deductible

We are the League of Extraordinary Roboticists, FTC Team number 8699 .   We are a community robotics team made up of middle school and high school students from the Greater Danbury Connecticut area, including New York. We compete through FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) in the FIRST Tech Challenge.

We have been invited to compete at the FIRST Robotics World Championships in St. Louis, Missouri which is being held April 26-April 29, 2017.  We are asking for donations to help us get there.  The money will be used to pay for air fare,  hotel, team uniforms, food, robotics equipment and other necessities.  Without help from the community, we will not be able to attend.  Please consider making a donation so that all of us may attend.

Our mission is to change the face of robotics by inspiring and engaging kids, females, minorities and others with "different abilities" to get involved in Science Technology Engineering Art and Math (STEAM) fields, in particular robotics.

Our mission evolved out of some of our personal experiences.  For example,  some of our female team members were told that girls can't do robotics and one of our African American team members was told that African Americans don't participate in robotics, they play basketball and football.

In order to change these stereotypes, our team agreed to have at least one community outreach event every month and partner with other community organizations for education and recruitment.

Our objective is to diversify our team and be living examples of diversity and inclusion, in robotics while at the same time demonstrating how fun robotics can be.

We hope that others see it as a sport like any other sport, except it's the sport of the mind, that anyone can participate in.

We are honored to have the opportunity to attend FIRST World Championships and appreciate any assistance you can give us towards this wonderful and exciting opportunity.  We will certainly share our experiences with others.

Thank you for your consideration!

Sincerely, Kay Bell, Media Specialist (7th grade)
