Hi folks:
The Leon family has had a few rough months and could use a little help getting over this hump and back on track. My good friend George Leon is a war veteran who served in Iraq and Somalia, which resulted in his PTSD. In 2012 he was awarded full disability by the VA as acknowledgment for his traumatic time while serving in Somalia.
He has been vigilant in his work, to overcome his PTSD and found a way to live a functional life. Last August he was hit by a drunk driver while heading home. His car was totaled and the insurance didn’t cover the full remaining balance of the loan. He and his wife had to pay out of pocket for it, as well as his medical bills for a traumatic brain injury which is ongoing.
The Leons struggled with having to give up their savings that had been set aside to buy a home. Still, having the monthly VA benefits for his disability gave them peace of mind and a sense of gratefulness just to have a monthly income. Unfortunately, that did not last. To their surprise the VA claimed George missed an appointment in Feb 2018 and because of that, are ending his benefits in Feb 1st 2019. He nor his wife have any recollection of an appointment missed. There were no letters or phone calls over the last 12 months that would indicate any action needed by him. Now, with no savings and the loss of his benefits.. George and his family face a tough future. It’s a painful reality for George, as he processes their decision and fights to have it overturned.
These guys have always been there for me in a time of need or crisis. All money raised will go towards George's medical bills, rent and the cost of living without VA benefits. Please give if you can. Share on social media if you can't. Thanks!
