Legal fees for refugees in Dresden

€2,000 of €1,200 goal

Raised by 27 people in 12 months

Two friends of ours, Libyan refugees in Dresden, are currently starting their cases to ask for asylum with a local lawyer expert in refugee issues (each asylum case generally costs around 1000 euro). We're trying to raise money to cover or at least help with their legal fees.  Even 5 or 10 euro would be much appreciated!

Anything extra we raise will be used for other expenses (dental care, psychiatric treatment, etc.) or be passed on to local refugee organizations in Dresden.  We're very grateful for any contribution, no matter how big, as we help these sweet guys make their intelligence, kindness, humour, and talent a more permanent part of our community!

Dear friends and fundraisers, I just wanted to write a note to let you know what's going on with the money we raised--as I mentioned before, one friend's legal process ended and he received three years' residency. We paid the last of his legal fees and are now helping him find a flat; his next step will be continuing language lessons. Another friend's process is still ongoing and we're helping out as needed. Since the fundraising was so unexpectedly successful, we've also found some other potential recipients: an Algerian refugee who will hopefully be taken on as a client by the same lawyer soon, as well as a family in a camp in Leipzig that we'd like to help. I just wanted to keep you in the loop and know that all of this is going because of your generosity. And we hope to have good news to pass on again soon!

Everyone, we just got the news that the first legal case started with this fund was successfully completed, with the wonderful result that our friend has been given a chance to study, work, and otherwise blossom in Germany! We are all ecstatic--it feels like a dream! And of course we're incredibly grateful: thank you, thank you, thank you!

We hope to get news about the second case soon, but we're sure that, with the enormous response we've had, we'll certainly also still have some funds to pass on to local refugee organizations in Dresden.

We're really happy and grateful for the generous response so far! This is so beautiful, thank you, thank you!

Do please share! If you know anyone who'd be able to contribute a little more--even 5 euro--we're still hoping to reach the thousand required for one asylum case in Dresden (and hopefully enough for two)!
