South West Florida LGBTQ+ Prom 2019

My name is Charlotte and I'm an upcoming senior in high school, and I started my school's LGBT club two years ago. This campaign is important to me because it made me realize how much these people appreciate the events put on for them. The light in everyone's eyes, and the love in the atmosphere at the first LGBT Prom I hosted was overwhelming, and they begged me to do another one the following year. It brings me so much joy to let these people have the time of their lives, and not have to worry about discrimination at least for a night.
In Southwest Florida, there is still so much room for progression even after the legalization of same sex marriage. The youth is at a disadvantage because there is still a substantial amount of discrimination, and a lack of equality.
Every year there have been so many LGBT students talking about how they wished they could go to their High school prom being themselves. Either with their girlfriend or boyfriend, or even dressing as the gender they identify with. In proms, there is no king and king or queen and queen. We want to bring love and support to the LGBT youth here in South West Florida.
We want to spark ideas for the future of our LGBT Community. We want the youth to feel like they matter, and their prom experience won’t go unseen. We want to see teens being able to be themselves like they couldn’t be at normal prom. With your help and donations we can create a wonderful, long awaited, dream come true for these kids. With your help we can even do it again for years to come, bigger and better. No one should have to feel misplaced at their own High school prom, which is often times a once in a lifetime experience. This is why we need a southwest Florida LGBT+ Prom.
The money raised on this campaign will be used for next year’s LGBTQ+ prom and go towards a fantastic venue, talented Djs, many decorations and lighting (which will help so much), food (catering), and security for everyone's safety. Any funds not used for the prom will be donated to local LGBTQ+ charities!
