Lavender Prom 2019

$4,000 goal

Campaign created 1 month ago
It's that time of year, again!  We're bringing back the Lavender Prom for our East Texas LGBT+ youth and allies.  Last year, the community came together to show these students that we will continue to support them.  And, again, we cannot do this alone.  Any donation amount will be greatly appreciated. This year, for any business, church, or other organization that donates $100 or more and would like to be recognized at the event, we will proudly display your name at the prom so that students can see how much our community cares about them. Please leave a comment with your donation if you would like for us to display your or your business/organization's name as a sponsor.

The background from last year's event:

"In spring 2016, a student at Central Heights High School (a Nacogdoches County public school) asked for permission to attend her prom with a same-gender date. She was told she could not do so and directed to look at school board policy. The student did attend the prom, but was not allowed to bring a same-gender date. In Fall 2016, Central Heights ISD announced that they were cancelling prom.

A grass roots group of community members rallied together in September 2016 to put on a prom that would be welcoming to all students.

The event will  be held in Nacogdoches in mid April.

But events like these cost money. We need funds for the venue reservation, catering, decorations, a DJ, a photographer, publicity, etc..." - Heather Olson Beal

Leftover funds will continue to support local events in Nacogdoches that promote unity, eduction, support, and awareness.

If you're interested in sponsorship of this event or have any other questions, please don't hesitate to contact us through this GoFundMe page or at nacogdochesunity@gmail.com.
