LAVENDER BLUES TV is a live-action early education music and movement class created and hosted by Alexandra Branson (LADY B). Lavender Blues TV is a fresh, stimulating, and joyful experience that is poised to elevate early childhood education. Many of you have already enjoyed the Lavender Blues TV pilot on YouTube. We are ready to film a second 45-minute episode and need your help! Your donation will allow us to pay for production costs (hiring a crew, renting a location, editing post-production, and distribution and marketing costs). Our goal is for every child to begin their education with LADY B & Lavender Blues!
LADY B’s VISION
A former nanny and Brooklyn native, LADY B saw a need for early education classes in Brooklyn, so in 2012 she created Lavender Blues as a daily drop-in music class. Since then the class has blossomed into one of the premier music classes for babies & toddlers in New York City.
However, LADY B has a vision for early childhood education that extends beyond Brooklyn. You see, educational shows aimed at the 0-3 age group feature almost entirely cartoons and characters. LADY B knows that learning from our human elders and peers can be a joyful experience that creates powerful interpersonal connections. She wants to resurrect the humanistic element of educational programming. With that goal in mind, she independently created LAVENDER BLUES TV , formatted after her drop-in music class.
THE LAVENDER BLUES CURRICULUM
Music and movement are the foundational elements of the Lavender Blues curriculum. Both are highly effective learning modalities for children ages 0-3. LADY B uses repetition to build muscle memory and to develop social skills, while simultaneously teaching her “bunnies” to identify objects, numbers, letters, and sounds. Week after week, LADY B delights as her bunnies grow in confidence and independence.
The most important part of Lavender Blues is LADY B herself. Her ability to connect to the children is one-of-a-kind. She knows that children learn best when they feel loved, so she makes sure every child feels seen and valued (even through their computer screens). Her magic and joy are contagious—even for the parents and caregivers.
“Jack is just nine months and because of Lavender Blues TV and LADY B, he can clap to a beat and gets excited when I count down from 5. That’s amazing, but the real joy for me is watching the wonderment on his face as bubbles float by, stuffed animals fly across the room, and ‘big kids’ giggle and romp about with maracas. The class is fast-paced and caregivers are given plenty of opportunities jump in.
