Laurel Battles Cancer
She is a loving wife to husband Steve and devoted mother to 3-year old Fiona Hillerson-Spear. In May 2014, she graduated with honors and received a Masters in Non-Profit Administration from University of San Francisco while working full-time as a Program Supervisor at Community Connection of the Volunteer Center Santa Cruz.
She is a warrior who will fight this cancer so that she can be here for her daughter. But Laurel now needs us - her friends, colleagues and community - to help make sure that she can focus on what is most important: health, healing and family.
Both Laurel and Steve will miss work to juggle caring for Fiona and making medical appointments. They will quickly exhaust paid leave adding a financial toll to an already difficult struggle.
Together, we can help Laurel and her family meet the cost of uninsured medical expenses, groceries, basic living expenses and alternative therapies while she is in treatment.
Laurel is a fierce advocate for others. And now, together, we are determined to support her battle. We ask you to join us to help her during this intensive and expensive fight. She is courageous and she will persevere. Please join us by making a meaningful gift in her honor.
While Go Fund Me requires this page be sponsored by one individual, these fundraising efforts are proudly hosted on behalf of Laurel by her University of San Francisco Master of Nonprofit Administration cohort.
In just 72 hours, your astounding generosity has inspired a total of 86 individuals to support Laurel with over $13,000 in her battle against cancer. The power of community is moving beyond words. We are deeply grateful for your efforts and encourage you to invite any and all to join Laurel in her fight.

GO TEAM LAUREL!
Dear Laurel, I understand that you are looking for a nanny. Have you contacted the Hospice of Santa Cruz county? You are going to need a very special person to help your daughter as she is grieving, and they might be able to help. Just a suggestion--no need to reply. I'm keeping you in my prayers.
