The Huron Jr. Wrestling Club will be hosting a local downriver wrestling tournament, “The Last Man Standing” tournament, Sunday, March 12th 2017 at Huron High School. This year’s event, like last year, has the purpose of helping a wonderful family with the financial burden that comes along with the disease of Cancer. Huron Jr. Chief’s Wrestling Club in collaboration with the UAW and Ford Motor Company will host the event and contribute toward honoree, nineteen year old Alec Antonian, for this years “Last Man Standing” tournament.

Alec Antonian is a young man facing his 8th year, in his battle with an Inoperable Glioblastoma Brain Tumor. Alec was first diagnosed on October 29th, 2009 at the age of 12, after being hit in the head during a soccer game. Alec was unresponsive and in a coma for a week. Within the first 5yrs of his diagnosis, he underwent several different types of Chemotherapies and radiation therapy. The treatments had to be stop prematurely due to them damaging his liver and pancreas. Over the past 8 years, Alec has endured several complications due to the side effects of the different medications and treatments. Some of his complications include drop foot (which he now wears a brace for), diabetes, obstructive/restrictive lung disease, adrenal insufficiency, small holes in the tissues of his nose, and
mental and physical delays among other issues. His monthly regiment now includes several doctors’ visits to specialists and quarterly MRIs’ to check the progression of his tumor. There is currently no cure for this type of brain tumor. Although Alec and his mother, Robin are strong and live in hope every day, the financial burden does become very taxing.

The Huron Jr. Chiefs Wrestling Club has made its mission to help in the fight against cancer by offering the proceeds of the tournament to a well deserving family battling this long devastating disease. Alec’s positive attitude and his determination to never give up, align with the clubs vision for their wrestlers.

This year, we are honored to be able to help Alec and his mother.
