LARRY RUST FEBRUARY 18, 1953-NOVEMBER 25, 2016.

FORMER MEMBER OF IRON BUTTERFLY.

Our good friend Larry Rust (age 63) passed away in his sleep Friday at his home in the Los Angeles area.  Larry is survived by his son Daniel and his brothers Fred Mead, Michael Mead, Richard Mead and James Mead.

Larry was best known for playing with the band Iron Butterfly from 1999-2005.

"When Iron Butterfly played Arrow Classic Rock festival in 2004 in the Netherlands, the crowd was about 50,000. After we played we went to a tent where there was only Press & Vip's to sign autographs for. After that I asked where I could go to sign for people in the crowd. I was told it was NOT SAFE for me to go out front. I told them I would take my chances and went out into the crowd. People told me I was the only one from any band that played in 2 days at the festival that went out front. I didn't do it for a Brownie Badge. I did it because I always wanted the fans to know they mattered."

A little background about Larry Rust.

Larry Rust was a genuinely gifted musician that became involved in music at the age of 8. He started with classical training on keyboards for 7 years. Playing in bands at the age of 14.

He had been involved with Midi and Midi Computer sequencing since the beginning. He has been involved in recording for the past 28 years developing his Engineering and Producer skills with tastes of the old style and the new style of producing records. He was currently working on several music projects before his passing on November 25, 2016.

He was an engineer who tried not to let technical boundaries, and preconceived ways to record, stand in the way of musical creation and making things just sound fat. He was also heavily involved in writing soundtrack music for feature and industrial films. With experience in recording R&B, Hip Hop, Jazz, Contemporary Gospel, Rock, Pop, Rap & Country, Larry Rust had a well-rounded talent for recording.

Larry owned a recording studio, in his home for private production projects of Owen Avenue Productions. He also composed for Film Lease Libraries including The Firstcom/Hollywood Film Library/ BMG. He has done scoring for film & TV Including shows for History Channel.

Larry Rust has played live concert dates with the famous Classic Rock Band from the 60's"Iron Butterfly". He sang lead live on "In A Gadda Da Vida" From 1999 to December 2005. Larry is featured in 4 Live DVDs with Iron Butterfly.

At a very young age Larry was adopted and raised by his Grandparents in West Virginia. All six brothers were adopted at an early age. His brother Richard Meade tells us that “he was the one in his family with musical talent.”

The money will be used for his burial and handling his estate.  Money collected beyond the costs of handling his estate and the funeral will be donated to a charity that helps abused women. This was Larry’s favorite cause.
