It all started in November 2014 for MARKE LANTRY. He was having shortness of breath when climbing a ladder at work or just mowing the lawn. He had many doctor appointments , diagnostic tests and laboratory tests and still no diagnosis. As time progressed so did the disease. In February of 2016 a lung biopsy was performed and the diagnosis of PULMONARY FIBROSIS was made. It is a progressive lung disease with NO CURE and a mortality rate of 3 to 5 years.
In September of 2016, Marke and his wife Lynn went to Cleveland Clinic to discuss possible DOUBLE LUNG TRANSPLANT. The Good News is that Marke is a prime candidate for double lung transplant. The Bad News is that insurance doesn't cover the medical air ambulance flight, travel and lodging expenses for up to 3 months. This could cost approximately $15,000. Monthly trips to Cleveland are required during the first year of recovery. There will be loss of wages for him and his spouse and also any other caregivers that assist in his recovery. Marke will also be on anti-rejection medicines and have many doctor appointments that will carry hefty co-pays for the rest of his life.
Marke is 54 years old and currently employed by Carlton Management as a property maintenance manager. He has been a VOLUNTEER Firefighter (currently on medical leave) with Hinsdale Fire Department in NY for the last 11 years. He also was a Certified First Responder. He is actively involved with his daughters' field hockey teams at CNS School District and SUNY Cortland. He is a member of the CNS Field Hockey Booster Club and is one of their top fundraisers. He does not miss a game despite having to drag an oxygen tank behind him wherever he goes. He was voted #1 fan by the Cortland Club Team.
Marke and Lynn have 3 children: Jason, Julia and Jillian. Jason and his wife Carly have 3 children, Noah 5 years, Owen and Liam 2 year old twins. They live a mile away. His siblings Joanne, Sandy, Steve and Tommie also live nearby. Their family and friends are very close and actively involved with each other. Their love for life, humanity and each other is strong. That is why we are calling this benefit LANTRY STRONG!
