The Event

I am undertaking the challenge of a lifetime to help raise awareness of autism and some money along the way for the National Autistic Society. In July 2019, I will be running 100 miles within 40 hours through The Lake District. To make the task even more difficult, I have to navigate myself using a map and reach checkpoints throughout the course, within allotted times. There is only a 50% success rate amongst competitors. Please see the link below for more details:

As you can imagine, the training for an event of this great magnitude is going to be horrendous. Knowing that people are understanding more about autism will mean the world to me and/or donating will keep me motivated to push on through the miles.

What is Autism?

Autism is a lifelong developmental disability that affects how people perceive the world and interact with others.

Autistic people see, hear and feel the world differently to other people. Recently my little boy was diagnosed with autism at the age of 4.

The National Autistic Society provided us with much needed support with understanding William’s diagnosis and how best to help him going forward and we can support him.

There is no cure for autism, so my aim is to not only raise some money to support this fantastic charity, but to raise awareness of what autism is, how you can help and push the message to businesses to make subtle adaptations that could make a huge difference to someone with autism.

An update on training...

Today saw us smash the back out of Striding Edge, Helvellyn, Swirral Edge and Catstye Cam in blistering heat. Never been up there before. It’s one hell of an experience!

The rest of the week includes:

Monday - 24 miles
Tuesday - 4
Wednesday - S&C
Thursday - 13 miles
Friday - 17 miles
Saturday - rest
Sunday - 24

Absolutely smashing the miles this week ‍♂️

Thank you to everyone who has donated, shared and/or liked. The support shown has been immense and has helped raise the profile of autism and furthermore, helped me get through a lot of cold, wet and windy runs throughout winter.

Training is well on target. I am currently covering on average 45miles per week, soon to raise to 60+ as I enter the next phase.

To give you a flavour of what the training entails. Here is an example of my typical week; Sunday 6miles AM, 13 miles PM, Monday - strength and conditioning, Tuesday - 10miles, Wednesday - Rest, Thursday - 4 miles tempo run, Friday - 17 miles, Saturday - rest. Training is intense and is set to get harder, adding another 10 miles on Saturday in April.

Keep looking out for my updates only 4 months until race day

How it Works
  1. You are donating to PayPal Giving Fund UK, a registered charity (No. 1110538), which will email you a receipt for your donation and claim Gift Aid where eligible.
  2. GoFundMe’s platform is free. The charity will typically receive the funds from PayPal Giving Fund within 15-45 days of your donation if the charity has enrolled (or 90 days if the charity has not yet enrolled). Unlike other platforms, 100% of any Gift Aid will go to the charity as well.
* In very limited cases, a recommended charity may cease to meet PayPal Giving Fund's legal or other eligibility requirements. In such cases, PayPal Giving Fund will reassign the funds to a similar charity, and (wherever possible) seek a new recommendation from donors.
