Tech Education in Kenya - LakeHub

Donation protected
I'm Dan. I'm raising money to help LakeHub, a budding technology innovation hub in Kisumu, Kenya.  Why does this matter? Tech education in Kenya, I see, is the fastest way to help motivated Kenyans lift themselves out of despair and poverty. Technology will be the fastest path to jobs. It will be the fastest and most widely spread way to address social issues. It will increase the socio-economic conditions in this part of the world.  And these people are hungry for change.

I visited LakeHub in Kisumu, Kenya in November 2015 with a coworker.  They are all young programmers, coders, designers, and creatives who have banded together with the sole goal of improving Kisumu and Western Kenya by teaching their fellow Kenyans marketable technological skills.  They bring the community together to create new apps, new web pages, and new applications that address social needs such as safety, health, and education. They equip slum abiding children, youth and adults with computer literacy, something we all take for granted. But there is one problem.  They need funding.

This gofundme is a quick effort to raise money for their short term operating costs of rent, utilities and internet connectivity while we organize a larger long-term solution. They need all three to be able to conduct business, teach and access online content, and manage their outreach efforts to more than 250,000+ residents of Kisumu. All funds raised will be donated directly to LakeHub to cover these costs.

We need to raise as much as we can as quickly as we can because they are facing eviction from their current space. $5000 will cover them for 3-4 more months of operation while a better longer lasting approach is put into place. These are great people trying to lift up and help their community in a way that will have a long lasting impact. Education, especially relevant technology education will change the face of Western Kenya.

Even a small amount will help. Thank you for considering this cause. I feel we are doing more than throwing money at a problem.  I feel we are empowering driven Africans to help their own people. It means so much to me, my coworkers, and to the members of LakeHub.

Evan Green-Lowe, one of the founders of LakeHub, is the current beneficiary officially on this campaign. LakeHub is so grateful for this incredible effort.
