Dear Voice of Detroit readers:
Above, children and parents from neighborhood on Nottingham where an illegal, dangerous police chase (police bumped car, stayed on bumper even after first children were hit) resulted in the deaths of Makiah,3, and Michaelangelo, 6 Jackson who were playing in their front yard, and serious injuries to three other children and a young adult in the next block. ONLY VOD has the crucial EYEWITNESS report from the woman standing with the children when they were hit, and has requested charges against the Special OPs cops who conducted the chase.
We have also covered the signing of the Great Lakes Water Authority contract with the City of Detroit June 12, which upon research was discovered to be a SALE, not a lease of DWSD's $6 Billion in revenues and its personal property, as well as an option for GLWA to sell REAL PROPERTY, opening way for privatization. It continues the practice of water shut-offs and attachment of water bills to property taxes, and will result in huge rate increases for all six counties. There is now a referendum campaign, allowed under state law, to invalidate this contract. Look for more on this from VOD shortly.
