Kylo needs surgery

Donation protected
My wife and I rescued Kylo, a pitbull/sharpei mix, in 2016 from the Carson city animal shelter. For those of you who don't know: Carson city animal shelter is a high kill animal shelter that looks more like a jail than a shelter. The only saving grace for these Cats and Dogs are the dedicated volunteers that work tirelessly to give these poor animals the treatment  they deserve. I came across Kylo's shelter profile (who was originally named Calvin) when my mom and step dad shared a post about him on a sharpei rescue group they follow on facebook. We definitely weren't looking for a dog, but when I saw his picture and read his story something called out to me. I cant explain why I felt this way I just knew I needed to rescue him and I was going to make any adjustments in my life to accommodate him.

After submitting paperwork, the shelter decided kylo needed to take a temperament test to see if he was aggressive. Kylo failed the test twice because he was too scared to even come out of the kennel. With the help of a man named Daryl, we were able to get Kylo out of the shelter and into our home. While at the shelter, the staff was negligent and did not clean his kennel or help him inside at night, so he slept on dirty concrete, outside in the cold.

The first couple of weeks were awful. Kylo had a terrible kennel cough and was extremely afraid of us. There was never any official backstory to Ky,  but  he was covered in scars along his neck and legs, as well as a crooked tail that had been broken and did not heal properly. Whatever he went through, He was terrified of humans and would hide in corners or tight spaces. With a lot of love and work, Kylo slowly came out of his shell and became a light in our lives. He was there when I proposed to my wife, and even attended our wedding. Life has so man surprises, and Ky has been with us through it all.
This May, my wife and I were relocated to Maui for our jobs. Since Hawaii has a very strict policy on animals coming into the island, Kylo and his brother Taz had to stay on the mainland with my mom until we could finish their quarantine process and bring them to Maui with us.

About a week ago, Kylo stopped eating and drinking water. My mom took him to the vet and it appears he has some blockage in his intestines that needs to be removed. This surgery is something I cannot afford at this time, but my options are limited. I have to either: pay for the surgery, or put Kylo down.

It kills my wife and I to think of these possibilities as Kylo is only 5, and we truly saw him meeting out children and growing old with us. He lived 3 years of his life without love and comfort, and now that he finally has a bed and a loving home, it devastates me to think of him having that taken away.

Any donation, share, and good thought sent our way during this difficult time is greatly appreciated. 100% of donations will go towards medical expenses to cover Kylo's surgery.
