Kyle's Spinal Surgery Fund

$3,625 of $5,000 goal

Raised by 69 people in 1 month
On January 27th, 2017, my cousin, Kyle Joseph was critically injured in a car accident in our home country, St. Lucia. Unfortunately, his spinal column was damaged (fracture at C6 and C7) and he is experiencing weakness in his upper body and unable to feel or move anything in his lower body.

My family has been informed that surgery is needed and while it will not guarantee a full recovery, there is hope it will help. The healthcare system in St. Lucia is different from that in the U.S. The total cost of the surgery will be approximately $42,000 E.C. (~16,000 U.S. dollars) and the surgeons are asking for at least $29,000 E.C. (~11,000 U.S. dollars) upfront before doing the surgery. My aunt (his mom) has gone to the insurance company everyday for the past week and a half and has had no luck in determining if they will be able to help offset the cost.

We will be approaching two weeks since the accident and it is critical he has the surgery soon. The more time that passes, the less likely for recovery.

Thus, I have started this fundraiser to help my family offset some of those costs. Anything you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Kyle and his girlfriend recently had a baby girl, Kayan, in August and she has been the light of his life. I understand if you can't provide financially. But, I do ask for you prayers and well wishes to keep Kyle strong, stable, and his spirits uplifted so he can pull through for his family.

Thank you,

Rosa Joseph

I am asking for your prayers, please.

An update from Nadia, Kyle's girlfriend: Hey guys, first off, Kyle's family and I would like to thank everyone who helped him through this surgery. According to the doctor it was a success. He is moving his fingers in his right hand a little better but he is still unable to move his legs. The good thing is that he has feelings in them. He was sent home but he has been hallucinating very bad and has a fever which never left. Yesterday we brought him back to St Jude's only to find out he has a lack of sodium and calcium in his blood..which is the cause of the hallucinating . The fever is an infection and the doctor told us is he is critically ill. They are trying to find out where the infection is. A head scan will be done, fluid will be taken from his spine and so on. I am pleading to those with the donation forms to bring in what was collected so we can get those test done, also please keep praying for him, thanks.

Update: I am happy to share that Kyle has been discharged home! He has shown improvement in his upper body, but unfortunately, still no progress in his lower body. But, hope and faith is not lost. He will need intensive physical therapy and occupational therapy. The fight is not over and the road is long. I ask that you pray for continued strength for him. Thank you again EVERYONE! It is truly appreciated.

Update: Kyle had his first (hopefully only) surgery on Monday, 2/20/2016. He is out of surgery and currently in the ICU. He has gained strength in his hands, however, he is still unable to feel or move his lower body. Next week, the surgeons say that the will perform another scan to see if a second surgery is required. Currently, he is having a chest cold- an Chest X-Ray is pending. I ask for your continued prayers. Thank you!

I am so incredibly grateful and this surgery wouldn't be happening without you. A lot of funds came from this site. I am going to still try to reach the $5000 as this is a long road and every bit will help.

Again, truly, thank you SO much! I am asking for you prayers and positive thoughts as Kyle undergoes surgery tomorrow. Thank you!

Hallucination can be cause by a high temperature...so it can be the fever causing it. It could also caused by a drug that was given to him. Them doctors, hmmm. Why didn't his family bring him up to Florida for his surgery?
