Handicap Van for Kyle

Donation protected
You may have no idea how hard it is to ask for help. But if you have been following Kyle's journey you may have an idea how much I am willing to do to better his way of life and to learn an all new way for him to enjoy it! As most of you know Kyle was diagnosed with GBS in Sept. 2010. Kyle became suddenly paralyzed in just 12 short hours from this rare disorder changing everything in our lives in the blink of an eye.

Kyle is getting stronger everyday and we are learning all new ways to enjoy the things we love. He is still in a electric wheelchair unable to walk on his own. It is getting harder and harder to lift him in and out of the van we have because he a growing 14 year old boy and is getting heavier and taller everyday. It is very hard to lift him in and out of the van and my back is really starting to pay the price.

We have been lifting Kyle in and out of the van for almost 3 years now, unfolding a really heavy metal suitcase style ramp and setting it in place, then rolling his 350 lb. wheelchair up into the back, it barely fits, and then folding the heavy ramp back up and putting it back in the van, sometimes doing this several times a day...several times a week. In the rain it is even harder, the wheelchair slides on the ramp and won't go up leaving me to ask for help from strangers many times.

As any parent would do for their child I am trying to show Kyle he can still have lot of fun...we just have to learn how. Staying home and doing nothing isn't an option! I want Kyle to get out and do the things he loves in a all new way...that's how we ROLL! But many times we limit ourselves on what we do because transportation is always such an issue.

We have put off looking for a handicap van because of the cost and the truth is...I was hoping he would be able to walk again by now, but he is not and now I know it is time to get a handicap van for him and our family to use to make his life easier...and ours too.

With all the medical bills and life changing events our family has been through since Kyle got sick there is just no way we can afford a new handicap van at over 50K. It is all we can do to just make it each month... so we are trying to raise enough money to put towards a nice used handicap van. I believe God will make a way when there seems to be no way.

After much thought and prayer I decided to reach out to our community and friends once again and see if we can't make this happen. Thank you for all your support and prayers many of you have sent our way during this life changing journey we are on. Kyle has come a long way but we still have a long way to go.

I have set up this site so that if you would like to help by giving it is a easy way to do so but please don't feel obligated, and if you can't help right now that's ok. Maybe you can share this page with others or just pray with us about this need we have for a handicap van.
