We often feel, treat, and take care of each other like family.
So, you can imagine how we felt when we recently found out our co-worker’s 17-month old daughter was diagnosed with Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH). LCH is a rare disorder that occurs in 1:200,000 children, most often ages 1 – 3 years.
Our co-worker is Valera Kushnir, his wife is Tara, and his daughter is Galyna. About 1 month ago, Galyna was having difficulty walking, standing, and appeared to be in pain. She was promptly taken to All Children’s Hospital and was diagnosed within 5 days, which is amazing. You can imagine how quickly life changed for the Kushnir family. The prognosis is good for Galyna but it does come with risks and lots of medical expenses. Aside from the multitude of tests and procedures that have already occurred, Galyna will be in treatment for a full calendar year. She recently had surgery to implant an IV port in her chest for administering medicine and will have outpatient procedures every 3 weeks through the rest of the year. These outpatient procedures are chemo. In addition, she will have a PET scan every 6 weeks to see what kind of progress she is making.
Because we care so much about Valera, Tara and Galyna we are starting a Go Fund Me towards the cost of the medical treatments. We invite anyone to participate.
