On New Years Eve our dog, Lucy, a German Short Hair Pointer, squeezed past me and ran out in front of an oncoming car. When I got to her she was immobile and covered in blood. I rushed her to Medvet where she was admitted. She had a dislocated spine with paralysis in her back quarters. She also had a laceration to her right eye and bruising to her lungs. We had to wait for the surgeon to evaluate her the next morning to see if she could withstand a spine surgery. On New Years Day after determining surgery was an option the surgery was performed and she had plates and pins placed in her  spine to realign her vertebrae. She is home now and we are in the recovery stage. She is slowly regaining the use of her hind legs. However, we use a sling to help with her mobility. I also massage her daily for 20 minutes as part of her rehab. She has an 85% chance of gaining full mobility. Unfortunately, the prognosis is not as favorable for her right eye.  She has had a shot, as well as eye drops four times a day since the accident but the inflammation is still there. She is likely to lose her right eye.
I'm not one to ask for help. However, this has come at an already challenging time in my life. Any support would be so appreciated. Despite the major trauma Lucy has endured her spirit is coming back.  It is so heartwarming to see her love of life and playfulness slowly return. We are also hopeful her "I Love Lucy" heart marking that had to be shaved for surgery will grow back as it was before the accident!
