The Kara Morgan Shade Fund

Kara Morgan was the immediate past President of the Irish Channel Neighborhood Association and devoted was a devoted activist in the Irish Channel.

“Kara was diagnosed with Stage IV melanoma in 2013, and she dedicated what would be the last year of her life to raising awareness about skin cancer from simple efforts like distributing sunscreen at outdoor events to major efforts like a statewide ban on minors in tanning beds. Her dying wish was to build large shade structures over the play areas in Burke Park (similar to that in Palmer Park) and the association quickly collected about $10,000 toward the $80,000 project goal after her death last summer.” Robert Morris, Uptown Messenger

Kara’s family and friends with the Irish Channel Neighborhood Association have formed the Kara Morgan Shade Fund to see Kara’s final wishes to fruition.  The Irish Channel Neighborhood Association is organizing ‘The Mystic Krewe of Loup Garou’, a new Mardi Gras marching krewe, as a fundraiser to directly benefit the Kara Morgan Shade Fund. The Krewe will have its inaugural march on Saturday, January, 2016 at 4:00 pm in the Irish Channel. For more information about the Mystic Krewe of Loup Garou, Krewe memberships, and Krewe sponsorship opportunities please visit www.irishchannel.org.
