Kristin Nordquist Medical Recovery Fund

Hi everyone. I wanted to create a community page for our friends and family to get updates on my sister, Kristin Nordquist.

To fill you in, on October 28 my sister experienced a traumatic head injury and was rushed into the emergency surgery at Clear Lake Regional Hospital. Due to the swelling and severe bleeding in her brain, the team of doctors removed her left skull bone flap and gave us a bleak outlook. After surgery, she was admitted into ICU and was placed in a medically induced a coma to stabilize her vitals. She was living off machines helping her breath and eat via tubes throughout her body. At the time we were told she would be paralyzed and deaf for the rest of her life.

A week of highs and lows passed and that following Sunday the staff at Clear Lake Regional decided to remove her breathing tube to encourage Kristin to start breathing on her own. At that point she was still on 40% oxygen but if this failed she would have to get a tracheotomy that Monday to insure no damage would be done to her vocal chords.

Kristin is strong and fought hard that Sunday and won. She was able to start breathing on her own.

The second week huge milestones were hit- she began squeezing both hands, moving all of her limbs, waking up, and eating solid food.

During week three she was moved to a inpatient rehabilitation center, and is still currently there. She is working a few hours a day with a physical, occupational and speech therapists. She is reconditioning her body with walking and stairs with her PT, reading/writing with her OT, and working on her cognitive skills with her speech therapist. She will need long term therapy to get her back to a new “normal”.

The doctors plan on putting her skull bone back in at the first of the year.

As you can imagine, the medical bills have started piling up for my parents. That leads me to the purpose of this Go Fund Me page- I want to put together a community to share information as well as help cover some of the of the bills my parents have and will have as Kristin continues rehab and treatment. Updates on her progress will be regular on this page.

On behalf of myself and my family, we are eternally grateful for the kind words, hot meals and prayers that our friends and family have sent our way. Please continue praying and sending good vibes! Every day is a new day and one day closer to getting Kristin home! #kristinstrong
