Krista’s Battle with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma

Donation protected

In October of 2018, Krista found a lump of the top of her head. Thinking nothing of it, she made an appointment with a dermatologist to determine what it was. Because of how deep the mass was, the dermatologist recommended a CT scan to get a better look.

Following the CT scan, her dermatologist stated that the mass looked like a benign lesion underneath the subcutaneous layer and referred her to a plastic surgeon to figure out the next steps to have it removed.

Fast forward to March of this year, Krista finally had it removed under general anesthesia.
Two days later, the pathology results revealed that it was actually cancerous - Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a cancer of the lymphatic system.
And most recently, via PET scan, we have discovered that it is Stage 4.
Her oncologist has informed us that it has now spread to her neck, chest, stomach, spleen, and bone.

Since the diagnosis, Krista has had to go through numerous appointments and tests prior to starting her chemotherapy treatment. One of the recent procedure she’s had done is the chemo port placement. This port is placed right beneath your collar bone and contains a catheter that is attached to your jugular vein to allow easy access for intravenous medications.

Due to the significant effects of Hodgkin’s lymphoma and chemotherapy on a women’s fertility, Krista also decided to go through fertility preservation prior to her treatment. This 3-week process included daily hormones - both oral and injections - along with multiple blood tests and ultrasounds - and a final procedure for egg retrieval.

Unfortunately, this process is not covered by her insurance. Luckily, Krista reached out to the LIVESTRONG foundation and they have offered to pay for some of the medication required throughout the fertility process.

Her first chemotherapy treatment is this coming Friday. She will be receiving a combination of drugs (AAVD) for 6 months every other week (12 treatments total) and we will not know until later on if radiation is needed.

Krista and her family never imagined that at the age of 25 she would be going through something like this. She has a long journey ahead, but we know the love and prayers from all of you will help guide her to recovery.

The proceeds from this page will go directly towards all of Krista’s medical bills, as they are  starting to become very expensive and this is only the beginning.

Krista and our family want to express our love and gratitude to all of you in this time of need.

We will continue to use this page to provide any updates throughout her journey.
