Kansas City, meet Joyce, a blue haired Royals fan with an inspiring story. Joyce was born with neurofibromatosis, a genetic disorder that disturbs cell growth in her nervous system. This disease causes tumors throughout the nervous system, and has affected Joyce on her face, neck, and spine among other places, and has also caused her to lose her left leg. In addition to her personal ailment, her family has been heavily impacted by cancer to which she has lost both of her parents and two of four siblings over a six year span.
Neurofibromatosis is a debilitating and painful disease that has caused Joyce many hardships, but has not affected her beautiful love for life and of course, the Royals. A Kansas City native, Joyce loves to spend her time with her church family, brother, and having phone conversations with her sister in Nebraska. Since her condition prevents Joyce from working, she manages to live on less than $700 a month and can’t afford to watch the games, let alone attend, but this hasn’t stopped her from keeping up with the team and enjoying the ride!
In addition to the physical pain that this disease causes, the manifestation of the tumors has led to many hurtful words since she was young. I came across Joyce through a Royals facebook fan page, where she posted a picture of her royal blue hair before Game 4 of the ALDS. While some of the commenters were very hateful, the majority of people had the same comment: this lady deserves to go see our Royals play ball! She represents the passion, perseverance, and values that make Kansas City the best city in America. Let’s band together and show her the heart of this city and make her dreams come true. We are asking for donations to send Joyce to Kauffman stadium to cheer on our boys in blue!
Joyce ends every message with two words: God Bless. I’ll use five: God Bless and Go Royals!!!
(We would really love to get her season tickets for 2016 to give her lots of games to look forward to! Extra money raised will go to her or whatever charity she chooses!) Please help us with our goal!! If anyone knows how to get ahold of someone to donate ALCS/WS tickets, that would be greatly appreciated!!
