Help Send Ewa Elem Teams to Georgia

Donation protected

Last year, Ewa Elementary participated in the Regional SeaPerch Competition for the first time and ended up taking OVERALL FIRST place. As a result, our team qualified and competed in the 2016 National SeaPerch Challenge at Louisiana State University and placed 18th out of 92 teams in the nation.   On February 25, 2017, Ewa entered 4 teams in the Regional SeaPerch Competition held at United States Coast Guard Base, Honolulu. 53 teams competed in a Beginner or Advanced Category in either the Elementary, Middle, or High School Division.  The top score in each Advanced Division and the highest
2nd place score advanced to the finals - 2 Ewa Elementary School teams, 1 Ewa Makai Middle School team, and 1 Radford High School team.  The results of the competition were:

 Elementary Division

1st Place - Team Ewa Killah Whales

2nd Place - Team Ewa Kapolioka’ehukai

Overall (elementary to high school)

1st Place - Team Ewa Killah Whales

2nd Place - Team Ewa Kapolioka’ehukai

With Ewa Elementary School teams winning FIRST and  SECOND place, they qualified to represent Hawaii at the 2017 SeaPerch National Competition at Georgia Tech. To send our 2 teams (8 students), the trip would cost approximately $12,000 (airfare, ROV registration, housing).

Participating in the National SeaPerch Challenge at Georgia Tech gives our students a chance to meet a goal they have strived for and a chance to test their skills with students from around the country.   Because Ewa Elementary is classified a Title 1 School of which 60% of students are Disadvantaged Free-Reduced Lunch, this fund will provide them an experience outside of their community.  SeaPerch is an innovative underwater robotics program that equipped our students with the resources they need to build an underwater Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV).  Students benefit by learning about robotics, engineering, science, and mathematics (STEM) while building their ROV. SeaPerch program exposed them to engineering principles, problem solving, teamwork, tool safety, and competitions.  The funds received from GoFundMe will provide our students with opportunities in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) which can lead to career and college readiness and at the same time foster self-confidence and life skills.   We are so excited to be able to provide our Ewa Elementary students with another ONCE IN A LIFETIME opportunity AND we are so very grateful to GoFundMe and the many donors who will help make this happen for them!!!
