My name is Jackie Ehlers and I'm raising money to go to The World Taekwondo Hanmadang in South Korea this summer. I'm currently a sophomore at the University of Oregon with a major in human physiology. I also help teach ninja classes at Northwest Ninja Park, a ninja warrior training facility in Springfield, OR. When I'm not doing school work or helping kids, I am either doing aerial silks/Lyra or Taekwondo training.
The summer before sixth grade I started Taekwondo and was immediately drawn to the new type of training. With perseverance and determination, I received my first-degree black belt two and a half years later. Soon after getting my first-degree I started competing in creative, speed, and power breaking at the U.S. Taekwondo Hanmadang and local competitions. Creative breaking is when you get a minute to break ten demo boards with any hand or foot technique of your choosing. Your points are determined by accuracy, difficulty, creativity, and spirit. Speed breaking is when you're given thirty seconds to break as many demo boards that you can with a spinning hook kick. Power breaking is when you are given a large amount of wood, concrete, or tiles and are supposed to break them all with one foot or hand technique. In the five years that I have participated in the U.S. Taekwondo Hanmadang, I have brought home thirteen gold medals and numerous others from our local tournaments.
I have gone to the World Taekwondo Hanmadang two years in a row now, and have brought home medals each year. As years past, I mostly can't afford to pay for the airfare for my trip alone which is why I turn to you guys! I intend on going to Worlds again this year from July 28th-31st and plan on competing in the back kick power breaking and the all-around (creative) breaking. I know that a lot of people can't afford to pitch in, and I know that your support and love are enough. Feel free to share my story and I'll try my best to send out updates leading up to the event.
Again, I can't thank you all enough for your love and support in years past, and hopefully I can bring back some gold medals from worlds for you all. <3
