KoKo Service Dog's Cancer Ottawa ON
I have a disability and have a Service Dog to assist me. Recently, he was diagnosed with CANCER (anal gland tumour) and probably needs ongoing veterinarian care and rehab. This will cost about $7000 and I'm broke and on a fixed income (ODSP). Any monetary donation is gratefully appreciated; no matter how small.
My name is Dan. I live in Ottawa, ON. My Service Dog's name is KoKo and is almost 9 years old. He's a German Shepherd/ Husky mix. He now experiences discomfort and is limited in his length of working time, which limits me, too. Because of the tumour location, he has difficulty pooping, so will stop eating making him weak and emaciated. It's difficult to keep him eating. I have to buy expensive people food, like beef, pork and chicken. If I can kick start his appetite, he'll begin eating after a few days without food. I can't describe how terrible this experience is for the both of us.
I don't know what I would do without him, as not only does he help me with my disability, but he's the only real friend I have.
I've had 3 independent vets examine him and now have been referred to a holistic vet, Dr. Beltran at Blair Animal Hospital. KoKo was there in August.
I deeply appreciate anything you can do and would be happy to share any documents I have to support his expenses and his progress, as things move forward.
In the event I exceed this financial objective, excess funds will be used for future mishaps, as being I'm on a low fixed income, there's always things I need for KoKo. For example, he needs a new vest/ uniform, along with patches. I can get this for under $100.
I might have to bring him to the vet but can't even afford to have him put down... what can I do??
He's eating and gaining weight. He still has probs pooping but eventually gets it out. Also not peeing well but he does pee his bed always now. I'm happy with that. As long as he gets it out...
KoKo was clogged up with poop but gave him lots of laxative and... Well I've been up all night changing a dozen towels and washing his bum. Yay to that cuz he's eating a bit now. I'll sleep when he's done pooping.
There's still hope... Please donate!
Dan for you to say that nobody cares is a lie, a lot of people care and clearly are trying to help koko but you have been donated over 2000 and he has not been to the vet since august that is what the money is for.. a vet visit.. if you can't afford to look after him and you are going to be homeless you can't just let him sit with cancer dying for 6 months sign him over so he gets the care he needs as he needs immediate care.. you cannot force feed a dog then fill him up on laxatives the past 3 month over 900 was raised and he still has not made it to the vet since august.. every bodies heart is breaking for this dog Alta vista will allow people to donate to a fund for koko take him there and people will donate to the vets office so that he can get the care and people know the money is going to his veterinary care
Please contact me via levacmelissa at gmail.com I'd like your full name, address and telephone number please. I'll put you in touch with a veterinarian in Ottawa that may be able to help but you have to contact me.
Thanks to Hilary Ketchington MacKenzie, people are rallying for Koko. But, they are also anxious for news. A suggestionn has been made, and supported, that Donations be given directly to the Veterinarian. This should be an easy thing to co-ordinate ???
I am in this exact situation right now. I know exactly how this feels. I get kicked while I'm down daily and after going through the same thing every day for 7 years now, I'm not even the same person I used to be. My dog is also my emotional support and I don't know what I'm going to do without him. I see him every day but I miss him already. Nobody cares about me, why would they care about my dog. I don't have the money right now but I have service dog equipment (Patches, vest, tags, etc..) and I care about people like you. I can sympathize. Let me know what you need because I probably (most likely) have something you could use.
So sorry to hear of Koko's passing. Sad that you didn't answer my email. RIP Koko so glad your suffering is over.
Dan, people are questioning your care of Koko because you have a dog with cancer, who has difficulty peeing & pooping, but you haven't used the donated money to take him to the vet. Not eating, peeing or pooping is not "every little thing." Those are important reasons to take a dog that you know is sick to the vet. There are people who have offered to take you & Koko to the vet, & pay for the tests, but for some reason you don't seem to want that. If you are desperate for help, take him to Alta Vista. I don't particularly like them either (I had to take a dog with a brain tumour there, & didn't like the attitude of some of the staff), but they are good at what they do. They are experts, & other people are willing to pay for Koko's care there, so it's not your money. I understand that you need him, but if he dies from the cancer, he will not be with you, so please take people up on their offers of help, & get Koko treated, so that you have him with you for longer. It sounds like he's suffering, & it's not fair to let him suffer. A lot of people care very much about Koko, but are reluctant to donate to GoFundMe because you haven't used the money already donated to take Koko to the vet. They would rather pay the vet directly, & there are ways that can be done, but you have to be willing to accept the help offered.
Dan, please reach out to a vet who will take donations, i.e Alta Vista, before it becomes too late to do anything. Koko means the world to you and we are trying to help you both in every which way possible. At least let's get the ball rolling with his treatment.........please.
Dan again you are asking people for money to take Koko to vet but we have offered to send money to vet and you will not return our calls or emails. If the money is for vet care then open an account with Blair Animal Hospital and allow people to donate directly. Providing receipts for human food expenses is not sufficient when the money is for Vet care also. So please address people concerns of giving you monetary. If you really need help then there is a group of us trying to do that without handing you cash.
I have contacted the Blair Animal Hopital and Koko has not been seen since August. Many of us have reached out to help without donating to Go Fund me and Dan Greco will not reply to us. Please be mindful if this dog needs help why has he not been seen with the funds already raised ?
Dee, I don't know how to reach you other than on here. I made a donation last week, & posted a fairly long comment with some suggestions for fund raising, but I don't see the comment, & I don't see the donation. I'm wondering if Gofundme has a problem. There are other things you can try. Have gone to CTV or the Citizen with your story? Have you asked Ladies Who Leash for help organising a fundraiser? Do you keep posting your request to Facebook? Do you use a Twitter account for posting your funding needs? If you need food, do you go to the Ottawa Food Bank. If Koko needs food, have you been to the Paw Pantry? Seems like people just aren't getting the message/
Have you talked to your vet about getting help from the Farley Foundation? This is just the kind of situation it was created to help with.
Dan, please contact me, I think I can help Koko. I tried contacting you weeks ago and never heard back. Please get a hold of me asap. Thanks and I pray God will give Koko his life back. DeAnna (DeAnimal Saver.)
Dan, is Koko still doing alright? I'd love an update so I can mov forward with trying to help!
I hope what I donated helps. I really hope things turn out well
Really wish I could help financially, but I'll try to help by spreading this around like wildfire. All the best Danny!
